Today was our trip to UAB to see the liver surgeon concerning the spot on my liver. Well...the spot is not a spot. I had been told how large it was but did not really understand until I was able to see the CT scan and have it explained to me. The spot...a tumor to be exact, is approximately a little over half the size of my liver. The only way I can put it is to be blunt...the tumor is cancerous. The first thing we are going to do is a catheterization to stop the flow to the tumor and try to shrink it. After about 6 weeks I will be re-scanned to see what has happened. Hopefully it will have shrunk some. Then after that the plan is surgery to remove the tumor. Before all this, the doctor is going to consult with the cardiologist there to get an idea of what the risks and implications would be to the heart. The ultimate plan is to remove the tumor; allow the liver to regenerate and grow with no evidence of cancer regrowth. The prognosis that was given was 20% chance of survival to 5 years. If there is no cancer after 3 years then it would be considered completely removed. We are praying for the most positive outcome. We know that the Lord is in control. He is soverign and is on His throne. He is to receive all praise and glory no matter what happens in this situation. Thank you for all those who have been praying and I ask that you would continue as this is going to be a bumpy road for us.
